All of us come to a place in our lives when we are not sure where to go next or we feel stuck in our current circumstances. Sometimes it is helpful to share what is on our heart, soul, and mind with another person. We can begin to heal just by having someone who will listen and to help bring clarity as to what the Spirit might be inviting us to do next. We offer both individual and group spiritual direction. There is no set fee for this service. However, we do request you pray about donating to support the work we are doing.
Teresa brings 30 years of her own personal discovery, along with highly specialized spiritual direction training from the Shalem Institute located in Washington DC. She is also a Certified Lay Christian Counselor.
2021 Prayer Group
In a world of constant unknowns, deciding where to put our faith is crucial to maintaining our inner peace. The Bible tells us to be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Praying supports our desire to deepen our relationship with our Lord. Whether you are a beginner or a prayer warrior, there are many ways, waiting to be discovered, on how we can approach the throne of grace.
The First Church Prayer Group meets the first Monday of the month from 7 – 8 p.m. via Zoom. Each month, we introduce a new type of prayer found in Richard Foster’s book, Prayer: Finding the Heart’s True Home. The format of the meeting will begin with a brief lesson on a type of prayer with open discussion. This will allow everyone to have an opportunity to teach and learn.
Richard Foster’s book has twenty-one chapters, so it will take two years to complete. We will complete the book in December 2021. No meetings are scheduled for July and August. There is no charge to attend and all are welcome. For more information or to register, please contact Teri Yerkes at 856-404-5704 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
2021 Christian Meditation Book Clubs
The Christian Meditation Center is offering a new book club. Check out the details below!
We are beginning a new book club beginning on Thursday, January 14, 2021, from 7 – 8:30 p.m. via a Zoom virtual gathering. The book club will meet for seven weeks. There is no charge for attending, but you are responsible for purchasing the book.
We are reading and reviewing the book, Sanctuary of the Soul: Journey into Meditative Prayer by Richard J. Foster.
“At the very heart of God is the passionate disposition to be in loving fellowship with you. . . . From the human side of this equation it is meditative prayer that ushers us into this divine-human fellowship.” Richard Foster, bestselling author and founder of Renovaré, writes these words as one who has experienced what they describe. And in this new book, he will beautifully guide you in this transformational way, that you might come to know deeper fellowship with God. Weaving together quotes and stories from the lives of mothers and fathers of the faith as well as powerful encounters with God from his own life, Foster describes the riches of quieting your mind and heart in order to listen to and obey God more closely. Along the way, at perhaps his clearest, most practical best, he also provides the biblical teaching and step-by-step help you need to begin this prayer practice for yourself. The journey into meditative prayer is not easy, but it is essential. And, as Foster shows, it’s possible, even in the midst of the noisy, often chaotic world we live in. Your soul can become a sanctuary where you fellowship with the very God of the universe, who knows you and loves you deeply. These pages point the way.
Come join us! You will enjoy the wonderful company of like-minded people while discussing how we can deepen our relationship with our Lord. There is no charge to participate, but donations are always appreciated.
2021 Christian Meditation Sessions
The Psalmist not only encourages us to be still and acknowledge God, but states, “For God alone my soul waits in silence; from Him comes my salvation.” Christian meditation incorporates stillness, silence, and places our attention on God into one practice. Those who meditate receive a spectrum of benefits; including but not limited to better physical, emotional, and mental health. However, the greatest benefits are spiritual. With regular practice, it resets our desires, elevates our consciousness, expands our understanding and it unpacks & supersizes the Fruit of the Spirit– love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
Beginning on Ash Wednesday, February 17 there are two weekly Christian meditation sessions available, one on Wednesday evenings at 7 – 7:25 p.m. and one on Sunday mornings at 8 – 8:40 a.m. These weekly sessions will run for six weeks. Attend the sessions that work with your schedule. Must be 15 or older to participate. No prior experience needed. An introduction to Christian Meditation video will be provided. 2021 Christian Meditation Retreats
Spring Retreat – God Within You: The Case for Christian Meditation
Christian meditation is not a redesign of Eastern meditation. It has been practiced for centuries. Christ Himself spent many hours in prayer and just being in God’s presence. You will find this retreat will offer a compelling case for the practice that has changed the lives of so many people.
Christian meditation is a practice that brings us closer to God and by the grace of God, to be united with Him. It is in being closer, we find the healing we need and the power to overcome our old nature.
The retreat is scheduled for Sunday, March 28 from 2 – 4 p.m. via Zoom. Join us for a time of learning and sharing. There is no cost to attend, however, a love offering to the Christian Meditation Center would be appreciated. To register, please contact Teresa Yerkes at 856-404-5704 (phone or text) or email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Fall Retreat – Finding Our Way Home
Most of us are familiar with the verse, “Be still and know I am God.” But what most of us don’t know is the power that is found by just sitting in God’s presence and being still. We will explore how meditation can provide you with the pathway for discovering peace and calm within.
Our Fall weekend retreat is scheduled for Sunday, September 12 from 2 – 4 p.m. via Zoom. Join us for a time of learning and sharing. There is no cost to attend, however, a love offering to the Christian Meditation Center would be appreciated. To register, please contact Teresa Yerkes at 856-404-5704 (phone or text) or email at email@example.com.
