She is the author of five books. Teresa teaches and leads Christian meditation training and sessions. She is a public speaker who facilitates book clubs and leads retreats. As a Certified Lay Speaker and Lay Counselor\, she brings over forty years of personal discovery and highly specialized spiritual direction training from the Shalem Institute to her work. In 2023\, she organized a coalition comprised of like-minded people who also have a passion for teaching Christian meditation. Teresa’s career was primarily in business administration. She is married to her husband\, Bill\, and is a mother to three children and a grandmother to six grandchildren. She loves their two yellow labs\, Lucy and Peaches\, and their cat\, Gracie. Her favorite pastime is spending time with family and friends. She also enjoys reading and taking walks with her husband and their dogs. \n \nMonica Armstrong\, a devoted Christian and visual artist\, founded the Spirit Matters studio in 1997\, blending her faith and creativity to inspire others through art. Her mission is to create art that embodies spiritual wisdom. Her workshops\, retreats\, and seminars provide a hands-on\, creative prayer experience that intertwines art and spirituality. \nInspired by her study of the Christian tradition during the Masters of Holistic Spirituality Program at Chestnut Hill College\, she developed “Prayer Paths\,” a Journey Through the History of Christian Spirituality featuring twenty handmade Sacred Vessels. \nShe studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and earned a BS in Art Education from Moore College of Art. Monica received her training as a Spiritual Director from the Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation. As a member of the CMC for several years\, she offers gentle guidance in her CMC weekly meditation sessions. \nBook Description: \n“Julian is\, without doubt\, one of the most wonderful of all Christian voices. She gets greater and greater in my eyes as I grow older.” ―Thomas Merton \nOther than what is contained in her singular work\, Showings of Divine Love\, we know almost nothing of the personal life of Julian. We do\, however\, know something about her background\, as a recluse\, or anchoress\, and the social\, cultural\, and political life of late-fourteenth-century England. \nAlthough nothing of it is mentioned in her Showings\, the times in which Julian lived were fraught with political\, social\, and economic upheavals in both Church and state. There are\, indeed\, many parallels to the present age. This\, in part\, helps to explain why Julian speaks so loudly to today after six hundred years of silence. \nOn the thirteenth of May\, 1373\, Julian received a series of sixteen visions centered on the person and sufferings of Jesus and on the Trinity. A short time later\, she wrote an account of them in twenty-five chapters (known as the “Short Text”). Twenty years later\, after much prayer and reflection\, she wrote another account consisting of eighty-six chapters (called the “Long Text”). During this important interim\, Julian the visionary became Julian the theologian. \nJulian’s visions correspond to the classic understanding of such phenomena. Some visions were spiritual locutions. In this experience\, God spoke directly to her heart in such a way as to communicate with absolute\, unquestioned clarity the desired message. Actual words were probably not used but the visionary was left with no doubt as to the authenticity or the meaning of the message. Other visions were visual or experienced as coming through the corporeal senses. These resulted from the direct action of God on the imagination. Still others were spiritual visions\, not easily expressed and usually concerned with the deeper mysteries of God\, such as the Trinity. Many of Julian’s visions were combinations of all three types. \nThis book is not a translation or paraphrase of Julian’s Showings of Divine Love. Rather\, it is a commentary―in 86 brief\, meditative chapters―intended to provide information\, reflections\, and further theological understanding that will enhance the modern Christian’s reading of Julian’s book. It can be read independently\, prior to reading Julian’s book\, or along with it\, chapter by chapter. \nEvent Registration Form \n\n\n \n\n\n\n Your name\n \n \n Your email\n \n \n Telephone\n \n \n Event Name\n \n \n\n\n Δ\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Gospel of John Bible Study
DESCRIPTION:That You May Believe: Exploring the Gospel of John\nSundays | 2:30 – 4:00 PMMarch 1 – April 12\, 2026Hosted by Christian Meditation Center \nThe Gospel of John is written with a clear and compelling purpose:“That you may believe … and have life in His name.” (John 20:31) \nThis 7-week study will follow a thematic journey through John’s Gospel during the Lenten season\, leading us toward Easter. Rather than moving verse-by-verse through every chapter\, we will explore the key signs\, teachings\, and encounters that reveal Jesus’ identity and mission. \nTogether we will examine: \n\nThe Word Made Flesh\nNew Birth and Living Water\nBread of Life\nThe Good Shepherd\nGlory and Servanthood\nThe Cross\nResurrection and Restoration\n\nEach session includes teaching\, discussion\, reflection questions\, and time for Q&A. Participants are encouraged to engage thoughtfully and bring their questions. \nMeet Your Facilitators\nTom Acey\nTom Acey is 84 years young and describes his spiritual journey as one that has spanned the spectrum—from atheism to devoted follower of Jesus Christ. For more than 30 years\, he has created\, taught\, and facilitated workshops\, trainings\, and both live and online classes. \nThe Gospel of John has become foundational to Tom’s understanding of the real Jesus. His vision for this study is that the Word—both the Person of Christ and the written Scripture—would become living and active in the hearts of each participant. \nHarold Chen\nHarold Chen is a New Jersey resident\, retired telecommunications engineer\, devoted husband\, and father of two adult sons who has spent many years walking closely with Scripture. He recently completed an 18-month Life of Christ and Introduction to Pastoral Theology program through Theological Education by Extension and has long been active in a men’s group with Bible Study Fellowship International. \nHaving previously taught the Gospel of John and currently worshiping at Calvary Chapel Old Bridge\, Harold brings both thoughtful study and lived faith to his teaching. He is grateful for the opportunity to serve through the Christian Meditation Center and looks forward to engaging others in reflective\, Christ-centered exploration of God’s Word. \nWhat to Expect\n\nThematic exploration of John’s Gospel\nHistorical and cultural background\nGroup discussion and reflection\nA Christ-centered\, thoughtful environment\n\nWhether you are exploring John for the first time or returning to it with new eyes\, we invite you to join us. \nOnce you register\, we will send you our study guide and the Zoom link. \nCome as you are. SUMMARY:One on One Coaching
DESCRIPTION:One-on-One Christian Coaching\nSpiritual Direction & Christian Counseling\nSometimes the most meaningful spiritual growth happens in the presence of a trusted companion. \nOur One-on-One Christian Coaching sessions offer a quiet\, grace-filled space to explore your spiritual life\, deepen your relationship with God\, and gently work through the places where healing or clarity may be needed. \nYou will meet with Teresa Yerkes\, founder of the Christian Meditation Center\, a Christian meditation teacher\, certified lay counselor\, and spiritual companion who has spent nearly four decades walking with others on their spiritual journey. \nTogether\, you will create space to listen for God’s presence in your life. \n\nIn these sessions you may discover\n• A compassionate listener who holds space for your story• Insightful questions that help bring deeper awareness• Guidance in prayer\, Christian meditation\, and spiritual practices• Support in navigating life transitions\, grief\, relationships\, and spiritual growth• Encouragement as you discern God’s movement in your life \nThis is not therapy and not a place for quick answers. Instead\, it is a sacred conversation where we slow down\, listen deeply\, and allow the Spirit of God to gently lead the way. \n\nA Gift-Based Offering\nThere is no set fee for these sessions. \nDonations to the Christian Meditation Center are gratefully welcomed and help support our ministry and programs. \n\nA Personal Note from Teresa\nFor many years\, people have come to me seeking guidance in their spiritual lives. Some are longing for a deeper relationship with God. Others are navigating grief\, difficult decisions\, or seasons of spiritual dryness. \nWhat I have learned over time is that people rarely need someone to give them answers. What they often need most is a sacred space to slow down\, be heard\, and listen for God’s presence in their lives. \nIn these conversations\, we gently explore what God may already be doing in your heart. Often the Holy Spirit is quietly guiding us\, inviting healing\, freedom\, and deeper love. \nIt is a privilege for me to walk alongside others in this way. I have witnessed how God meets people in powerful and unexpected ways when we simply make room for Him. \nIf you feel even the smallest invitation to explore your spiritual life more deeply\, I would be honored to walk with you for a season. \n— Teresa YerkesFounder\, Christian Meditation Center \n\nIs One-on-One Christian Coaching Right for You?\nYou may feel drawn to this type of conversation if you are: \n• Longing for a deeper relationship with God• Feeling spiritually stuck or unsure of your next step• Seeking clarity during a life transition or important decision• Carrying grief\, pain\, or questions you would like to bring into prayer• Wanting to grow in Christian meditation or contemplative prayer• Desiring a trusted spiritual companion to walk alongside you for a season• Feeling a quiet inner nudge that God may be inviting you to something deeper \nYou do not need to have everything figured out before you come. \nOften the journey simply begins with a willingness to pause\, listen\, and open your heart to God’s presence. \n\nFrequently Asked Questions\nWhat is the difference between spiritual direction and counseling?\nSpiritual direction focuses on helping you become more aware of God’s presence and movement in your life. While counseling often works to address specific emotional or psychological challenges\, spiritual direction creates space to notice how God may be speaking\, guiding\, healing\, and transforming you through your experiences. \nIn our sessions\, we listen together for the gentle work of the Holy Spirit. \nWhat kinds of things can I bring to a session?\nPeople come with many different questions and experiences\, such as: \n• Feeling distant from God and longing for deeper connection• Navigating a life transition\, grief\, or loss• Discernment about an important decision• Questions about prayer\, faith\, or spiritual practices• Desire to deepen Christian meditation or contemplative prayer• Healing from past experiences• Simply wanting to grow closer to God \nYou are welcome to bring whatever is on your heart. \nDo I need to be experienced in prayer or meditation?\nNot at all. Some people who come have been walking with God for many years\, while others are just beginning their spiritual journey. Wherever you are on the path\, you are welcome here. \nHow often do we meet?\nMany people begin with one session each month\, though the rhythm can be adjusted depending on what feels most supportive for you. \nIs there a fee?\nThere is no set fee. Donations to the Christian Meditation Center are welcomed in gratitude and help support our ministry and programs. \n\nBegin Your Journey\nIf you feel drawn to explore your spiritual life more deeply\, we would be honored to walk with you. \nRegister below to schedule your first conversation with Teresa. \nThere is no set fee. Donations are welcomed in gratitude. \nYou do not need to know exactly what you want to say or where the journey will lead. \nSometimes the first step is simply showing up and allowing God to meet you there. \nYour soul will thank you. \nEvent Registration Form \n\n \n\n\n\n Your name\n \n \n Your email\n \n \n Telephone\n \n \n Event Name\n \n \n\n\n Δ

SUMMARY:Christian Meditation Training
DESCRIPTION:Christian Meditation Training\nDiscover the Peace of Resting in God’s Presence\nDate: April 13\, 2026Time: 7:00 – 8:30 p.m.Location: Christian Meditation Center \nIs this you?\n• Do you struggle with distractions during prayer?• Do you long for greater peace and calm in your life?• Are you curious about the historic Christian practice of meditation? \nIf so\, this training may be exactly what you’ve been looking for. \nMany Christians know how to pray\, but few have learned how to be still long enough to listen. \nChristian meditation is the practice of resting in the presence of God—quieting the mind\, opening the heart\, and allowing God to do His work within us. \nIn this 90-minute seminar\, you will learn how meditation can deepen your relationship with God while bringing greater spiritual awareness\, emotional balance\, and interior peace into your daily life. \n\nTeresa’s Story\nFor many years I loved God and was committed to my Christian faith\, yet I still found myself struggling with addiction. It often felt like a form of bondage—living without the freedom to choose not to compromise my own values. \nAround the year 2000\, God began inviting me into a deeper relationship with Him. Instead of striving harder\, I sensed Him calling me simply to rest in His presence and allow Him to do His work within me. \nI first encountered Christian meditation through the writings of the saints. Teresa of Avila introduced me to the practice\, and later the teachings of Thomas Keating helped deepen my understanding. As I continued exploring other Christian authors who taught this form of prayer\, I began practicing meditation myself. \nOver time\, I experienced a growing interior calm\, greater compassion for others\, and eventually the self-control I had long prayed for. \nChristian meditation did not just change my prayer life—it transformed my life. \nWhat began as a personal journey eventually became a calling. On February 22\, 2012\, God led me to establish the Christian Meditation Center so that others could discover the peace\, healing\, and freedom that come from resting in the presence of God. \n\nWhat Makes Christian Meditation Different?\nChristian meditation is not about emptying the mind or detaching from God. Instead\, it is about quieting our thoughts so we can become more aware of God’s presence within us. \nThis practice has deep roots in the Christian tradition and has been practiced by many of the Church’s spiritual teachers\, including: \n• Jesus and the early desert fathers• St. Augustine• St. Teresa of Avila• St. John of the Cross• Julian of Norwich• Thomas Merton• Thomas Keating \nChristian meditation complements prayer rather than replacing it. \nPrayer often begins the conversation with God.Meditation invites us to listen. \nIn the stillness\, we learn to trust God’s presence\, rest in His love\, and allow His Spirit to shape our lives from within. \n\nWhat You Will Learn\nDuring this training we will explore: \n• The biblical foundation for meditation and stillness• The difference between thinking about God and resting in God• Discursive meditation and non-discursive meditation• How meditation prepares the heart for contemplative prayer• What you may experience during meditation and how to respond• Practical steps for establishing a daily meditation practice \nParticipants will also experience a guided Christian meditation session and receive practical tools to continue the practice at home. \n\nWhat Participants Often Experience\nWhile every person’s spiritual journey is unique\, many who begin practicing Christian meditation notice meaningful changes over time. \nAs the mind becomes quieter and the heart more attentive to God’s presence\, people often experience: \n• A deeper sense of peace and interior calm• Greater patience and compassion toward others• Freedom from anxious or repetitive thoughts• Increased awareness of God’s presence throughout the day• Greater emotional balance and clarity• A deeper trust in God and His guidance \nOften the fruit of meditation appears not during the time of prayer itself\, but later—in the way we respond to life\, relate to others\, and experience God’s peace. \n\nWho This Training Is For\nThis training is ideal for anyone who desires to deepen their relationship with God\, especially those who: \n• Feel spiritually dry or distracted in prayer• Long for greater peace and interior stillness• Are curious about historic Christian contemplative practices• Want to develop a consistent spiritual practice• Are seeking healing\, clarity\, or emotional balance \nNo prior experience is necessary. \n\nCost\nTraining Fee: $50 \nIf you have previously attended one of our Christian Meditation Trainings\, you are welcome to attend again free of charge. \nPersonal one-on-one training: $75Available by appointment. \n\nRegister and Payment\n  \nEvent Registration Form \n\n \n\n\n\n Your name\n \n \n Your email\n \n \n Telephone\n \n \n Event Name\n \n \n\n\n Δ\n \n\n\nPlease select a payment method.

SUMMARY:Explore A Course in Miracles Through the Lens of Jesus Christ and Scripture
DESCRIPTION:A Course in Miracles Study Groups\nExplore A Course in Miracles Through the Lens of Jesus Christ and Scripture\nHave you been curious about A Course in Miracles but weren’t sure where to begin? Perhaps you’ve wondered how it relates to the teachings of Jesus or whether it can be studied from a Christ-centered perspective. \nAt the Christian Meditation Center\, we believe it can. \nOur weekly A Course in Miracles study groups explore the Course through the lens of Jesus Christ and the witness of Scripture. Together\, we thoughtfully discuss its teachings while allowing the Bible to remain our primary authority and the Holy Spirit to guide our understanding. \nOur focus is not simply on studying a book. Our desire is to deepen our relationship with Christ\, renew our minds\, and learn to live more fully into the peace He has already accomplished for us. \nIf you’d like to learn more about our Christ-centered approach to studying A Course in Miracles\, I invite you to read this reflection: \nIt Is Finished: Living into the Peace Christ Has Already Accomplished \nWhether you are completely new to A Course in Miracles or have been reading it for years\, you are welcome here. \nJoin at Any Time\nYou do not need to wait for a new session to begin. \nOur study groups are intentionally designed so that new participants can join at any time. Each week’s discussion stands on its own while building upon the larger journey through the Course. Current participants are always happy to welcome newcomers\, and you’ll quickly feel at home. \nIf you’re new\, we’ll gladly help you get oriented and answer any questions you may have. \nWeekly Online Studies\nTuesday Evenings\n7:30 – 8:30 p.m. ET \nWednesday Evenings\n7:00 – 8:00 p.m. ET \nBoth groups meet weekly on Zoom\, and you are welcome to attend whichever evening works best for your schedule. \nOur Hope\nOne of the beautiful themes we have found in A Course in Miracles is its repeated invitation to choose peace and to recognize the thoughts that keep us from experiencing it. When read prayerfully and discerned through Scripture\, these conversations encourage us to abide more deeply in Christ and become increasingly aware of His presence\, His grace\, and His peace. \nWe invite you to explore with us in a welcoming community where questions are encouraged\, conversations are thoughtful\, and our shared desire is to know and follow Jesus more faithfully. \nInterested in joining us? Although I had been a Christian since 1983\, I found myself struggling with patterns I couldn’t seem to overcome. \nIn 2000\, I discovered the writings of St. Teresa of Ávila and later Thomas Keating\, who introduced me to the historic Christian practice of contemplative prayer and Christian meditation. As I learned to become still before God and gently return my attention to His presence\, my life began to change. I experienced greater peace\, deeper compassion\, increased self-control\, and a more intimate relationship with Christ. \nChristian meditation didn’t replace prayer or Scripture—it deepened them. \nAs my relationship with Christ deepened through this practice\, I felt called to share it with others. That calling led to the founding of the Christian Meditation Center in 2012\, where we help people deepen their relationship with God through Christian meditation. \nIt would be my privilege to introduce you to Christian meditation and help you begin your own journey of learning to listen\, receive\, and rest in God’s presence. \nPrayer begins the conversation.Meditation helps us pay attention. We pay attention to receive from God. \n\nCost\nFinances should never be a barrier to learning how to rest in God’s presence. \nThat’s why our online group Christian Meditation Training is free and open to everyone.
